Bill Durst at The Apollo

The crazy thing is I almost missed listening to Bill Durst. He was playing a few nights at The Apollo during Bluesfest 2018. My buddy Ryan likes to skip around to bars so I didn’t know if the $10 cover was worth a drink or two’s worth of listening. I’m happy to say I did go inside, pay the cover, and stayed there the rest of the night. Bill Durst was pretty amazing to listen to.

Now Bill has a very Billy Gibbons sound to his vocals. This makes sense as he previously was in a ZZ Top cover band. He also has a long beard, but puts his own style to it by braiding it.

His sound is kind of a mix of ZZ Top and George Thorogood. It’s Mississippi Delta blues with a bit more electricity in the guitar.

As I was sitting there, I was wowed by how good he is. I have a feeling other people at The Apollo were too. It’s the most packed I’ve seen it!

I really enjoyed listening to Bill Durst and in my opinion he’s a Canadian treasure. He nails it with the blues! I guess seeing people like him is why I love to travel. In the US, I would have never heard of him. I was just in the right place at the right time to be able to listen. I have a feeling if I come across any of his CD’s, I’ll be buying them!
