A Weekend Away to Celebrate Our 5 Year Anniversary

It's crazy to think that Victoria and I have been married for five years. It seems like only yesterday that we were saying I do in Salado, Texas. Just like we had a mini-honeymoon on Lake Travis, we wanted to get away for the weekend. My parents would watch Austin, and we'd get a hotel where we could take it easy.

We had both taken Friday off of work to pack and get ready. We sent Austin to daycare for a half day to make things easy. We got him in time for lunch and had some Taco Bell.

We then hit the road for Marshfield.

We dropped Austin and Maya off and then headed to Plover for our weekend getaway.

We got the King Deluxe Studio. Overall, it was basically a regular hotel room with a jacuzzi.

The weekend was cold.

For supper, we ventured out to Grazies.

Since we were in the Stevens Point area, I had to get a Point Special.

I also got some clam chowder to warm myself up.

For the main course, I got steak and shrimp. I figured if we were going to have a nice meal, I'd go all out with some of my favorites.

We made it back to the hotel and were tired. I guess that comes with the territory of being a parent. We went to bed early. The following day, you could tell it was cold by looking at the window.

I wanted an official reading and realized the windchills were pretty brutal.

We went downstairs for breakfast. It was very sparse overall and not the best.

Luckily, they had extra plates we could grab for later.

That came in handy when we ordered pizza for lunch. We got Dominoes just like we did on our mini-honeymoon.

Everything we got was perfect!

We made sure to order extra for the next meals. With the cold temps, we figured it would be best to stay put instead of fighting the weather.

Unlike our mini-honeymoon, the view was of a car dealership instead of the lake.

We didn't really pay much attention to it. My parents got us champagne and chocolates, so we sat on the couch and had them.

Soon, it was time for dinner. More pizza!

The Packer game was on a while later. It wasn't fun watching them lose.

The next morning, it was time to finish the pizza. We had just ordered enough and didn't waste any.

We then checked out and gassed up.

Our gas stop was also a caffeine stop.

We then swung by Papa Murphy's to get more pizza. We would bring this to my parents and have it for lunch in Marshfield.

We ate and visited for a while. We timed things just right so that we'd leave during Austin's nap. He luckily slept a good chunk of the drive. We had leftover soda from Dominoes to keep us awake.

We eventually made it close to Belleville. We stopped at a car wash since the caked-on salt was bad.

Overall, it was a good weekend. It was the first weekend we really could relax with no responsibilities. It was great just spending quality time with Victoria. I also took it as an opportunity to catch up on some sleep.

It's just nice getting away sometimes. It would be cool to do this sometime in the future. I'm not sure when, but it does seem like Austin enjoyed his weekend at Grandpa and Grandma's (and they enjoyed him, too). We definitely enjoyed the weekend to ourselves.
