I always love small independent grocery stores. When I was in downtown Wausau, WI, I found this cool store called Downtown Grocery. I walked across the painted crosswalk and went inside.
The first thing I noticed was the produce in baskets. There was a wide selection that was neatly organized. It was well-stocked but there wasn’t an excessive amount of produce there so you know there’s a decent turnover rate and it’s fresh.
The also had a small food bar.
They had plenty of beer and dairy products, which are definitely a Wisconsin staple!
These Wisconsin staples also included Hamm’s!
Besides local beer, there was a lot of local liquor.
There were only a few aisles, but they were full of high quality, more natural products.
They even had Nasonville Cheese. Nasonville Dairy is only a few miles from where I grew up and I actually worked there in high school!
They had a great bulk foods section that would make it easy to go package free.
There’s also an area where you can hang out at and use the wifi.
I think Downtown Grocery is a neat grocery store. If I lived in Wausau, I’d probably shop here. It’s small and efficient, but appears to have everything I need.
