East Side Pies Austin TX

I wanted nothing to do with Black Friday. The crowds and chaos are too much for me. While I ignore Black Friday, one day I can get behind is Small Business Saturday. If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know that I’ll sometimes spend hours scouring the grocery store for local products. I am also always on the lookout for local restaurants.

One thing I’ve found that is hard to come by in Austin is a by-the-slice pizza joint. Polito’s in Stevens Point, Wisconsin got me spoiled with this. Victoria made the suggestion that we try out East Side Pies. They are a local by-the-slice pizza joint that just expanded near where we live in North Austin.

The inside feels cozy. There are a few picnic tables to sit on. To your immediate right is a huge menu with a bunch of different quirky pizzas. Some include the, “Homer”, “Marge,” “Popeye,” and “Chimi Hendrix.”

I didn’t want a whole pizza so I went over to the hot case right by the counter. There were a bunch of different slices there. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and a slice of something with fried eggplant on the top. I’m not sure what it was called, but it looked interesting and I wanted to try it. Victoria and I each also got a garlic knot on the side.

I could see the ingredients were fresh and the pizza making process was in the wide open. That’s always a good sign!

I grabbed a pamphlet by the counter. This is where I knew I hit the local jackpot! There was a clear list of vendors, many that are local to the Austin area. They may have not advertised it like EatLocal Pizza in Thunder Bay, Ontario, but it was clear they had the same business model.

I went over and got a Maine Root soda. This is also local to the Austin area.

There were plenty of fixings for the pizza. I grabbed a packet or two of Parmesan cheese and red pepper. I went over to the table and soon our pizza was out!

The pizza was great! It was fresh, warm, and really hit the spot! Victoria approved.

I’m happy I found this gem of a pizza place. I can get my fix of by-the-slice pizza in a place that focuses on being local. I’m glad I found this on Small Business Saturday and I know I’ll be back in the future!
