Zup’s Food Market, Silver Bay, MN

When I’d drive the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, I’d always go past billboards for Zup’s. I just thought of it as a weird name and a small town grocery store with probably not much variety. One of my readers, Kathy, recommended I try the potica they sell. Potica is an Slovanian dessert bread that she said her ancestors used to make.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have any potica there, but they did have some other cool and local stuff. I was wrong thinking it was a small town grocery store with a limited selection. There was a lot of local things there they they made themselves. I ended up getting some cheddar jalepeno dried sausage and Dot’s Pretzels. I can see this is a good place to stock up if I’m ever on the North Shore!
